Super Simple Home Remedies for Acne and Acne Scars

At the dinner table, Nairuti was staring at her husband’s face for a long time. Feeling awkward, her husband inquired what the case was. She asked him whether that mark on your face is a pimple or you got hurt while shaving. Her husband smiled that it is indeed a pimple. In fact, he was suffering from acne.

Nairuti was surprised. She used to think that it was only females, especially young girls who suffered from acne. A male and especially a married one cannot ever get acne. Her husband laughed her off. He started looking for a skin specialist nearby on the internet. Herein, Nairuti interrupted him and suggested that she had some home remedies that he can try. They are harmless and cure acne completely. Her husband accepted the offer.

Home Remedies for Acne

Are you too suffering from acne? Then, I have some super simple home remedies that you can try and bid these nasty things off from your pretty face forever. You just need to make way to the kitchen and start gathering the things that I suggest. I did the same and I am feeling quite better. Acne does not only look bad but also hurts at time. My toddler has a habit of spotting them and even pricking them at times. Thank God for those home remedies worked. I suggest you should give these home remedies a try. They do not cost much but they give good results.

1. Lemony Lemon

Most preferred and most loved thing that helps fight acne for me is lemon. Lemon is full of vitamin C. this helps in drying up the acne. I have been using it for quite some time now. the best thing about lemon is that it even gives a super glow to the face. There are so many ways to use lemon for the acne.

  • Dip cotton balls in freshly squeezed lemon juice and apply it all over the face. Wash the face with water after some time.
  • Dry the lemon rinds under the sun or in the shade. This will take around 4-5 days or even more. Grind the dried lemon rind into powder. Add it to your favourite face pack or use it as it is. I like to add it to gram flour and a pinch of turmeric. Apply a thin layer on the face. Keep it for 15 minutes and wash it off.
  • If you are lazy at times, then just rub used lemon rinds (the inside part) on the face. Keep it for some time and wash it off.

2. Ice, Ice baby

This is another favourite. When I was young, I used to sweat a lot. So, every time I went out for get together, I used to apply an ice or two on the face before going out. You can even rub some ice on the face before make-up. This is because ice prevents sweating and hence, make-up stays intact. Ah! We are talking about pimples here.

If you are troubled with acne just before a party, try wrapping an ice or two in a fresh handkerchief and applying it on the pimples. You will notice that not only redness has reduced but also swelling. Ice is good for enhancing blood circulation in and around the acne. This not only tightens the pores but also clears the stubborn dirt that settles on the skin.

3. Scream for Steam

No, this is not my favourite, but I like it. Steam is good for skin every once in a while. To avoid extra hard work, just take some steam before a hot shower. I fill up a tub with scathing hot water and cover a towel around my head, while even including the tub. This is fun. The steam fills up the face. It feels quite good, especially if you are suffering from cough and cold. The reason I recommend steam during acne attack is that steam helps in opening up the clogged pores, one of the major reasons of pimples. When the pores open up, the skin is able to breathe properly. With this, all the oil, dirt and grime that had settled on the skin gets washed off. After taking steam, apply some light moisturizer to avoid dryness.

4. Pungent Garlic

You may not like the smell but Mr. Garlic is quite well known in the acne circles (pun intended). There are so many beautiful properties garlic has that it becomes impossible to ignore it. Garlic is not only antifungal but also antiviral as well. The antioxidant agents of garlic make it a hot favourite for getting rid of skin problems, especially pimples. The presence of sulfur in garlic is known to heal pimples quickly.

You just need to cut fresh garlic cloves into two. Rub the inside part on the pimples. Leave it for some five minutes or so and wash it off with warm water. Repeating it several times a day will help you in getting rid of the pimples, naturally. You can even eat raw garlic to purify the blood. However, do not overdo it.

5. Honey

I love honey, especially the organic one. The best part about honey is that drinking it with warm water helps clear the system and applying it clears the pimples. Both ways, it works wonder on the skin. You can even apply it on your hair as a mask. For pimples, just apply a thin layer of honey on the face. Keep it for some fifteen minutes. Without any doubt, you will need to wash it off with warm water as honey is quite sticky.

6. Powers of Papaya

Powerful papaya works on pesky pimples. While this could be a tongue twister, this is indeed a great home remedy. Before gulping down a bowl of papaya, set aside one or two cubes to apply on the face. You can either rub them as it is or just mash a piece or two and apply it all over the face, especially around the pimples. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. The beauty of papaya is that it helps the skin in many ways. I like touching my skin again and again after a papaya mask. It gets soft and supple. Papaya prevents the pus in pimples. It even reduces the inflammation.

7. Aloe Vera Gel

I can swear by the benefits of aloe vera gel. It has helped me several times. Whenever I need a dose of some cooling effect on my skin, I grab some gel and apply it. It feels so good. If you can source some fresh aloe vera plant, then cut the leaves in half lengthwise. Use the gel inside it. You can apply aloe veragel on burns, pimples and even as a hair mask. If you do not get fresh aloe vera gel, use an organic brand sold in stores. Apply aloe vera gel overnight and wash it off in the morning. It is like a skin tonic for me.

8. Baking Soda

What!! Yes, even I was surprised when I heard it for the first time. But friends, this thing really really works. Just mix baking soda with some water and prepare a thick paste out of it. Apply it on the pimples and leave it to dry. Wash it off with warm water. Baking Soda helps in exfoliating the skin and even dries up the excess oil secretion. It even fights off the fungus that causes acne. It is a win-win for the skin.

9. Fuller’s Earth

If you have an overall oily skin, apply fuller’s earth as a mask or just apply it over the acne. Prepare a thick paste by mixing fuller’s earth with water. Dab it on the pimples and leave it to dry. Wash it off with warm water. This clay mask helps in warding off the excess oil in the skin. if you have applied it as a mask and your skin feels dry thereafter, use a light moisturizer afterwards.

If you get hold of fresh sandalwood stick, then rub it on a stone and apply the resultant paste on the skin. alternatively, you can use the ready-to-use powder available in the stores. To further increase effectiveness, mix sandalwood paste with rose water. The benefit of this paste is that you can apply it overnight and wash it off in the morning next day. I just love the smell of the sandalwood and merrily follow this routine.

Turmeric

Looks who’s here – the good old turmeric. Use a pinch of turmeric powder with gram flour and raw milk. Apply it on the face. It not only heals the scars but also gives you a glowing skin. Alternatively, apply just ground turmeric on the face. Wash it off with warm water after some time.
